Hardware
Every piece of hardware the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Mini comes with is an upgraded version of its predecessor. Its predecessor came with a 2.55 inch TFT capacitive touch screen, which offered 240 x 320 pixels of resolution. The Mini comes with a 3.0 inch touch screen that offers a resolution of 320x 480 pixels. Furthermore, the new smartphone comes with the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine. This allows users to enjoy the same technology used on Sony's large screen HDTVs.
These days, users are drawn to the dual-core processors in modern smartphones. Although the Mini does not come with a dual-core processor, it does come with a mobile phone processor that is clocked higher compared to its predecessor.
The previous Mini came with a 600 MHz ARM 11 processor Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset with an integrated Adreno 200 GPU. In the past, this was considered to be one of the fastest around. However, today's standards put this processor on the bottom of the totem pole. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Mini may not come with a dual-core processor, but it still comes with a processor that is up to par with today's standards. It comes with a 1GHz Scorpion processor Qualcomm QSD8255 Snapdragon with an integrated Adreno 205 GPU. This means more performance and better graphics. Furthermore, it comes with 512 MB of RAM that adds to the phone's performance.
Software
The X10 Mini comes pre-installed with the Android OS version 1.6 Donut. This previous version can now be updated to the Android OS version 2.1 Éclair. However, there are now 2 versions more updated than the Éclair. On the other hand, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Mini comes pre-installed with the most advanced operating system Google's Android has to offer.
